One of the foremost aims of the Society of Nutrition and Food Science (SNFS) is to independently and objectively evaluate and review novel controversial findings in the fields of nutrition and food science, which are often published in high impact journals and widely disseminated in the (social) media. Such studies are often too complex to be easily comprehensible by lay persons and even journalists, who are not specialised in the respective field of study. It frequently happens that the findings of such studies are unduly extrapolated to the general public and incorrect conclusions are spread and alarm the public.

It is therefore of vital importance that qualified experts objectively, but critically, examine the data from these studies to ascertain that only correct conclusions are communicated. Where this is not the case, the Society of Nutrition and Food Science provides guidance to journalists and the public in the form of objective comments.
