Helmut Sies, M.D., Ph.D.(hon), M.D.(hon), studied Medicine at the Universities of Tübingen, Paris and Munich. He was Full Professor and Chairman at the Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology I at Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf, Germany, where he now is a Research Professor. He is a member of the German National Academy of Sciences (Leopoldina) and was President of the Society for Free Radical Research - International, SFRR-Europe, and the Oxygen Club of California (OCC).
His research interests include oxidative stress, oxidants and antioxidants, hydroperoxide metabolism, glutathione, micronutrients (polyphenols, selenium, sarotenoids), and nutritional biochemistry.
