Sascha Venturelli received his diploma in biology at the University of Freiburg in 2002 and graduated in medicine at the University of Tuebingen in 2008. He obtained his PhD in biology at the University Hohenheim in 2008 and his MD in 2012 at the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Tuebingen, where he is employed since 2009 as an assistant staff physician. He underwent post-doctoral training at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne, Australia (under Prof. Ricky W. Johnstone) from 2011-2012.
His research is focused on the identification and characterization of natural compounds that modify cellular epigenetic regulation and result in altered gene expression. In this context, he is interested in novel inhibitors of histone deacetylases, DNA methyltransferases and substances that induce cellular senescence for the potential use as anticancer drugs.
